KUALA LUMPUR: To allow the public to evaluate the performance of the federal and state governments, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says report cards from each state will be unveiled in stages.

This, Anwar said, was in conjunction with Sunday’s (Dec 10) one-year anniversary of the Madani Government under his premiership.

According to Anwar, the first state to reveal its track record would be Selangor in January 2024.

"These last few days, we’ve seen the performance of the federal Madani government. Malaysians get to evaluate our work in the last year.

"In that spirit, we have agreed that other states will also produce their reports starting with Selangor in January.

"Other states will follow suit after that.

"Aside from the performance of the federal government, we also want to see additional reports from the state governments," he said in his speech during the One Year Madani Government programme closing ceremony at the Bukit Jalil Stadium on Sunday (Dec 10).

Anwar said the initiative to unveil report cards for each state was to ensure all policies, programmes, and projects were being implemented transparently.

He added the initiative would also allow the government to get feedback from the public so that Putrajaya could improve its performance.

"Paradigm shift means we must have the determination and courage to make changes so that every single person in this country will get the benefits.

"When we say we want to improve schools, we mean all types of schools. When we say we want to end hardcore poverty, we mean we want to help all those affected regardless of their backgrounds because we want to be inclusive."

The Prime Minister said he was determined to implement the true meaning of democracy through the Madani concept, adding that practising mature politics would benefit all segments of society.

At the same time, he urged the public to evaluate the performance of his government using facts rather than emotions and sentiments.

"There is no exception when it comes to democratic accountability. We must evaluate based on facts, not lies.

"We went to ensure that management doesn’t only happen in elections, but it must happen in every village, every area," he added.
